More than a week into practices, head coach Colleen Seiloff is happy with where Green River High School's boys swimming team has started their season.
With 14 returning swimmers, she sees their first competition in GIllette Friday as a fun way to start the season.
"We chose to go to that particular meet," Seiloff said.
Friday, the swimmers will compete in a relay competition while the Saturday event is the a pentathlon. Each swimmer swims the 100 fly, 100 breast stroke, 100 backstroke, 100 freestyle and 50 freestyle in a pentathlon. Their times are added, with ranking determined by the lowest times. Seiloff said the pentathlon is a great way of learning which events individual swimmers excel at.
Seiloff said she's looking forward to starting some competition at the state level, as well as seeing the swimmers develop over the course of the season. The divers are showing promise as well, with three returning members as well as a couple of new recruits looking compete for the wolves.
"They just look real good on the boards already this year," Seiloff said.
In general, the team is looking to make great improvements over their performances last year. Seiloff said many of the swimmers have improved throughout the off season and continue to work hard in the pool.
"I'm really excited where we're at," Seiloff said.
After Green River's visit to Gillette, the Riverton Invite will take place in Green River Dec. 18-19. Seiloff said Riverton High School's pool malfunctioned, causing the school to move its meet to Green River.
