Is that my hair burning?

A couple months ago, I was trying some new hair styles.

One day, I decided to curl my hair, which is something I had not done in a very long time.

As I was curling my hair, I was getting frustrated because it didn’t seem to keep the curl.

I switched curling irons, and the new one was working better.

After I was done, I decided to spritz my hair with spritz hair spray. I then noticed I missed a spot.

So I picked up the curling iron, grabbed that piece of hair and put it into the curling iron.

My hair barely even touched the iron, when I heard a singe and smelted burnt hair.

I quickly pulled the curling iron away and noticed about three inches of hair stuck to it.

What just happened?

Did I just burn my hair right off?

Yes. I had. To my utter amazement, there was my hair stuck to the curling iron. I thought to myself I was way worse to my hair in high school and college than I have been recently and still I never burnt any hair off.

In high school and in college I would spray hair spray directly onto my hair while it was in the curling iron.

Yes. I know I am not supposed to do that, but I was young and didn’t really care.

I quickly grabbed what was left of my hair and hoped my head did not smell like burnt hair all day. I did not have enough time to shower again before work.

Soon, both of my sons arrived to figure out where that awful smell was coming from.

I just told them, the curling iron burnt my hair.

I didn’t cry, but I probably should have.

I grabbed the mirror and looked to see if I could see where the piece of hair had burned off at. Luckily, I could not tell. I heaved out a huge sigh of relief.

I finished getting ready for work; and then proceeded to get my children ready for preschool and school.

When I got to work, I asked one of my coworkers to look at my hair and see if they saw anything odd. She looked and said she could not tell where I had burnt it. I was once again relieved.

All the while, I kept thinking how could that have happened. Then I thought about the difference in products I used in high school and college. I do not recall using a spritz hair spray, but an aerosol can hair spray. Could that have been the problem?

I may never know, but what I do know, is the next time I decide to curl my hair, I will make sure the hair spray is completely dry before retouching it.
