Council seeks grant funds

The Green River City Council approved various actions at Tuesday’s meeting, many of which were aimed at applying for grant money.

The council’s resolutions started with a move to approve the resolution for the north-side lift station grant submission to the Wyoming Business Council’s Community Readiness Program. The grant money will be utilized for the renovation of the north-side lift station, with a total project cost of $1,491,550.

A council action item was a council movement to approve a grant submission to the Sweetwater County Joint Travel and Tourism Board for Green River’s annual Crystal Classic Winter Festival of 2016. The festival, which takes place in February, has been a popular event through the years and continues to bring tourists to town for the event. The council approved the submission of the grant request in the amount of $6,000. The motion was moved by councilman Allan Wilson and was seconded by councilman Mark Peterson. If the grant is accepted by the Sweetwater County Joint Travel and Tourism Board, Mayor Pete Rust is now authorized to sign and accept the grant on behalf of the city of Green River with the moved motion and approval of the grant submission.

The council also moved to approve an agreement between the city of Green River and the National Ice Carving Association for the 2016 Crystal Classic Winter Festival. The agreement is in the amount of $950. The agreement is necessary to make the festival a nationally sanctioned event, which will bring ice carver competitors from across the United States.

The agreement also solidifies the date for the event.

The consent agenda started with an approval of a maintenance agreement with BHI, an instrumentation and electrical company, for the city’s annual renew for maintenance of the city’s wireless network.

The council approved the motion for the agreement with BHI for maintenance of the city’s wireless network system in the amount of $18,000.

A move was passed to authorize Mayor Pete Rust to sign agreements with the Wyoming Association of Sheriffs and Chiefs of Police. The agreements would allow the groups to conduct yearly alcohol and tobacco compliance checks with retailers within the city of Green River.

The agreements not exceeding $3,400 are reimbursed by the Wyoming Association of Sheriffs and Chiefs of Police.
