The Green River Police Department employees have a cumulative total of about 411 years of service here at the Green River Police Department. We have about 91 children and of those 91 about 74 have attended schools in Green River. We are familiar with the community, the schools, the activities, and the people that live in our community. Chances are, if there is a family activity in town or a sporting event, there’s a good chance that a Green River PD employee and their family are there.
The goal of the Green River Police Department is to be visible in the community, to minimize the opportunity/ discourage the intent for criminal behavior; to enforce the municipal ordinances and state statutes; to investigate reported crimes, collect evidence, recover stolen property; and to prepare to present the evidence to a jury or a Judge if the case goes to a trial. As with any job, these days, technology plays a part in achieving this goal. Marked police vehicles have computers in them for a number of reasons; one is to allow the Officers to type reports in their vehicles so they don’t always have to return to the office to write reports, which takes them off the street. So if you see a police car parked somewhere that might be the reason.
There is technology available today that assists Law Enforcement in locating stolen property, stolen vehicles, in finding missing persons, and other areas that was not available a few years ago.
As has been proven in other cities, enforcing what some people consider to be minor or trivial violations does in fact reduce criminal activity. Almost any contact with an Officer regardless of the reason will generally discourage someone from participating in criminal behavior if that was their intent. The other part of this is the involvement of the citizens.
Often times you see things or hear things we do not. A phone call to dispatch to get Officers in the area can result in the Police resolving the situation.
Often, police work is like the illusion of the young girl/old woman picture. Not everyone sees things the same way, or, not everyone sees the same solutions to a problem, which is part of the reason that an investigation can be so complex.
Keeping this community a great place to live and raise a family requires a team effort. It requires involvement from individuals, business, school, church, and government, and that combination seems to be working pretty well here in Green River.
