VIRS Respite Care received a $2,500 grant from the Wyoming Community Foundation's Rock Springs Area Board, which will provide relief time for those who care for the elderly and disabled in Sweetwater County.
The organization allows relief time for primary caregivers by assisting with each client's activities of daily living. This allows clients to maintain an independent lifestyle in their own homes and helps avoid the cost of nursing homes or institutions. Certified Nursing Assistants provide this care under the supervision of a registered nurse.
Respite Care is a nonprofit organization that has been serving Sweetwater County since 1979. In the past 36 years, the organization has helped hundreds of people.
Respite Care Director Melissa Searle said the grant will greatly benefit the organization.
"The funds will allow more direct care hours for our clients," Searle said.
