Mission at Castle Rock Rehabilitation Center residents and one Villa resident ended August with a fishing trip at Flaming Gorge Reservoir.
Six CRRC residents and the Villa resident, along with six employees and four volunteers loaded onto a CRRC bus for the trip.
During the bus ride, the residents enjoyed looking at all the scenery.
When they arrived at Cedar Springs Marina, the entire group was treated very well, Marilyn Dockter, Social Services Director for CRRC said, the employees at the marina let them rent two pontoon boats for a discounted price.
“People couldn’t be more helpful,” she said.
They helped with loading, unloading and anything else they needed, she said.
While out on the lake, the residents, who were all male, tried their luck at fishing.
One of the residents caught three rainbow trout; another resident caught a fish, but it got away.
Even though only two residents caught fish, the entire group enjoyed their reactions and the excitement of the catch.
The fish they caught were kept; and one of the Villa ladies cooked them for the group, Dockter said.
The residents responded well to the trip; and most talked about how they were still able to do fun things, she said.
“They loved it, she said.
“It reminds them there is life outside of our community; and helps them to remember what it was like to be young.”
There was such a feeling of camaraderie amongst the men who attended -- both the residents and male volunteers, she said.
Angie Tynsky was instrumental in planning the trip, but all departments worked together to facilitate the trip.
Dockter and center employees were happy with how the whole trip turned out.
“We hope to offer many more experiences like this,” Dockter said.
One resident told Dockter he hoped the center would offer this trip every year.
