A sure sign that summer is coming to a close is the ending of the summer farmers markets.
They are not over yet though. The peaches are ripe, the baked goods are plentiful, and the salsa is fresh. The Green River Farmer's Market will continue from 4-7 p.m., until Sep. 9.
"We've had good success this year," Kris Weidner of Weidner Family Specialties said. "Our markets this year seem to be a little bit better than what they have been in years past. I love that it's finally up here."
The Green River Farmers Market has received quite a bit of traffic at its location off of Uinta Drive, next to the skate park. This is the second year the farmers market has been at its current location. The farmers market offers a variety of home-grown or homemade goodies to choose from. One nonfood item that can be found at the Green River Farmers Market is homemade soap. Shandryn Trumble of Hipster Suds makes handmade soups and has had a booth at the Green River farmers market for the past couple weeks. Some of the her soap scents include caramel apple, coconut romance, spearmint lavender, peach petal and sage lemongrass.
"It's definitely fun. My parents got me a soap making kit for Christmas and I didn't know how fun it was actually going to be, so it's just kind of gone off," Trumble said. "We've had fun over the last couple weeks here at the farmers market."
Ladies from the Golden Hour Senior Center will continue to sell their homemade baked goods as well. They have a variety of cookies, pastries and bars to choose from.
"It's going fast. We've sold out everything," Ann Lowe said. "We've done very well."
In two weeks, they've sold $2,600 worth of baked goods. Their goal is $6,000.
"We're going to get there," Sheela Schermetzler, executive director of Golden Hour Senior Center said. "This bake sale helps to keep the center going, so it's very close to our hearts."
One cannot forget the fruits and vegetables on sale at the farmers markets.
"The peaches are my favorite," Green River resident Virginia Wolf said.
AAA Produce has peaches, pluots, black berries, corn, red potatoes, and more. Pluots are a combination between a plum and an apricot.
"This week we got green bell peppers and cucumbers in," Alize Robertson of AAA Produce said.
The fruit and vegetables are some of the summer farmers markets favorites. The farmers market is coming to a close, but there's still time to get any last of the summer farm-fresh produce and other homemade products.
