A recent, favorite Wyoming moment

A friend and I were recently discussing what our favorite Wyoming moments would be, specifically the Green River or Rock Springs moments. I had a hard time narrowing it down. I honestly couldn’t think of a specific one, but not because I don’t have any fun or memorable moments in Wyoming. I’ve spent the majority of my life in Wyoming, so many of my memories have been in Wyoming and many of them in Green River and Rock Springs.

Something happened last week though that I decided deserved to be considered one of my favorite Wyoming moments.

A pretty exciting thing happened, through the power of friends spreading the word through text message. The word was going around that a famous rock group, Bullet for my Valentine was in town and going to have an impromptu meet-and-greet at Hasting in Rock Springs. So I hurried to change clothes and off I went to see if this rumor was true, but not before letting a string of my friends know as well. We get to the parking lot at Hastings, the jitters settling in from the possibility of meeting this band for free and randomly of all places, in Rock Springs. Sure enough, on the door is a hand written sign saying Bullet for my Valentine at 7:30 p.m. We walk in the doors, there’s another sign for the band with an arrow pointing to the left. The store is filled with excited fans, eager to meet the band. My friends and I, along with others in line joke about what article of clothing to have the band sign, coming unprepared. So I save our place in line and my friend goes to buy us anything random for the band to sign. Proof we met them.

When I finally got up to the band member, they talked to me signing their CD and a hello kitty purse for me. The band was gracious, stopping to talk with every person in line.

A band member told me they were just sitting in their hotel room bored, so they decided to go talk to their fans and sell some records. Their tour bus broke down on their way to their concert in Salt Lake City.

Thinking about the evening, it was very exciting to meet that band, and so unexpectedly, but what was really special about the event was the shared experience I had with not only my friends, but many Green River and Rock Springs people that congregated for a similar interest.

It was an experience special and unique to us in that moment. I consider this now to be one of my new favorite Wyoming moments.

This will be added to my vast vault of Wyoming memories.
