Boyd Gilbert Smiley, 54, of Rock Springs, passed away in Salt Lake City July 8, 2015, following a sudden illness. Boyd was a longtime resident of Rock Springs and former resident of Limon, Colo.
Smiley, known as Bodie by his family, and Smiley by his friends in Rock Springs, loved to ride his motorcycle; the family ranch near Limon, Colo.; the outdoors; collecting guns and reading history.
He cherished his daughter, Amber Harrison and husband Sean, and their daughters Kiera and Berlynn and his youngest daughter Brandy Lakey-Smiley.
He is greatly missed and will always be remembered by many, including his daughters and granddaughters, aunts, uncles, cousins, his mother Millie Smiley, two brothers, Greg Smiley of Limon, Colo. and Gary Smiley and wife Denise of Casper; two sisters, Tammy Smiley and husband Cris Mireles of Parker, Colo.; Crystal Downey and husband Mike of Missoula, Mont.; nieces and nephews, Anna Smiley-Kallas, Nicholas Smiley-Kallas, Tiffany Smiley, Robert Smiley, Leyna Downey and Noah Downey.
He was preceded in death by his father Lloyd W. Smiley.
Born in Flagler, Colo., Smiley grew up having fun, conflict, adventures and doing chores with his siblings and cousins on the family farm/ranch near Limon, Colo. He attended schools in Limon and Billings, Mont. graduating from Billings Senior High School in 1979. He married Mary Damron in 1980 and they divorced in 1989. Smiley joined the United States Army and served from 1979 to 1982. He worked 25 years, until his retirement from Halliburton in 2013. After retirement he had more time to ride with his many friends, including the American Legion motorcycle club, and his brothers. Memorial ervices will take place in Rock Springs, Aug. 29, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the American Legion Archie Hay, 551 Broadway, Rock Springs. Pastor Gene Emerson of the Restoration Ministries Church will conduct the services.
