Ladies dressed in their best, enjoyed an afternoon tea party at the Golden Hour Senior Center on Friday. The china was set, the water was hot and the weather cooperated. The tea party menu included an assortment of teas and delicate refreshments including chocolates, strawberry scones, lemon cookies, banana milkshake cakes, cucumber tea sandwiches and egg salad sandwiches.
"I was amazed when all this came out," Carmen Tune said.
The ladies had a leisurely afternoon enjoying the fine food and company.
"It's nice just to have time to visit," Rachel Stockar said.
"A grown up tea party," Margere Chew commented.
For some of the ladies, it was their first tea party. For others it had been years since their last tea party.
"Mine was probably 50 years ago with my girls. I never actually had a tea party, it was just play with the girls," Ann Lowe said. "As you see, we have a very talented activities director."
Golden Hour's activities director Megan Brown, organized the tea party, created the theme and made all of the refreshments.
"I did it in honor of the 150th anniversary of the publication of Alice in Wonderland," Brown said. "I went classic Alice in Wonderland, the book."
The Green River Smith's grocery store donated flowers for the occasion. People donated tea pots and Girl Scouts donated the decorations from their Mommy and Me Tea Party, also a Mad Hatter's theme.
Brown wanted the event to be exclusive; quaint, for a small group of ladies. The ladies enjoyed their tea party, so she hopes to do a couple more this summer; one in July and August.
