Actors’ Mission will present the family friendly, two-act comedy “Mind Over Matt” Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m.
Performances will be at the Elks Lodge on C Street and a complimentary meal will be served one hour prior to every performance. Jerry Val Evans and Chance T. Hicks direct.
“Mind Over Matt”, written by Scott Haan, the playwright behind “Insane With Power,” tells the story of Matthew Lane, an illustrator with looming deadlines and mounting problems. His inner personalities, visible to the audience but unseen by Matt, cause trouble when he tries to finally ask out the girl of his dreams, and he instead ends up the object of affection for his overworked boss.
“This play has presented some funny challenges to the actors, such as when Matt is taken over by one of the personalities and the physicality that comes into play in those moments,” Evans said. “The personalities are just that; larger than life caricatures of different aspects of Matt.”
“One of the great things about this play is how everyone can relate to the personalities in some way,” Hicks said.
“They really are representations of certain drives and traits that everyone has, and seeing how they interact with each other and Matt is just hilarious. Everyone will see themselves in at least one if not more of the personalities.”
The play features several actors new to the Actors’ Mission stage, including Eric Staggs as the lead role of Matt, Blain Myers as one of the personalities, and London and Rannyn Stephens as the two halves of Matt’s conscience.
