A man accused of trying to sexually assault a 12-year-old girl pleaded not guilty to four felony charges.
Kasey D. Manley, 22, of Green River, recently appeared in the Third District Court of Judge Nena James at an arraignment to attempt to commit sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree, attempt to commit sexual assault in the first degree, sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree and sexual abuse of a minor in the third degree.
If found guilty of all four felony charges, he could face a maximum prison sentence of 80 years in prison and a maximum fine of $40,000. A jury trial has been scheduled to take place Aug. 3.
According to court documents, on March 26, 2015, a Green River police officer was sent to meet with a 12-year-old girl and her mother to discuss a possible sexual assault.
The girl told the officer she and her mother went to the Green River Recreation Center to meet some people to play volleyball, while at the recreation center the girl received a text from Manley asking her if she could go out for ice cream with him. Both the girl and the mother thought Manley’s wife would be with him, so they agreed.
Manley arrived at the recreation center about five minutes after another game of volleyball began and the girl went with him. When they got to the truck, Manley told the girl he had to stop by his trailer to let his dog out before going to get ice cream.
When they arrived at the trailer, Manley invited the girl in. The girl told the officer the trailer was extremely dirty inside and there were rocks and dirt on the floor. She also noticed items for babies laying around.
The girl told the officer she was hesitant to go in the trailer, but Manley teased her about being scared of the dark. He then allegedly put his arm around her neck and pushed her onto the couch.
The girl told officers that Manley started kissing her. At this point, she pulled out her cell phone, but was unable to make a call, but she noticed her messages were open so she sent a text to her mother that seeking help. She then sent another text for help but she was not sure how much of the second text she typed correctly.
The girl told the officers she was really scared, but she thought she could talk Manley out of doing anything else, however, he allegedly continued to make sexual advances toward her.
