It was quite a week for the Green River High School boy’s soccer team.
The Wolves wrapped up the 2015 regular season with three wins in three days, including a 6-4 win over second-ranked Riverton Friday.
Head coach Chris Bieber lauded his team for being able to get the three wins.
“It shows their focus and passion for not only the game, but winning as well,” he said.
Green River (10-6-1, 6-4 4A West) opened the week Wednesday with a 3-2 win over Kelly Walsh. The game was played four days after the scheduled contest had been cancelled due to winter conditions.
The team continued their winning ways Thursday on the road with a 2-0 blanking of Evanston. That win set the stage for the Friday victory against Riverton, a game in which they led 3-0 and trailed 4-3 before tying the game and scoring the winning goal in overtime.
Bieber said it was one of the craziest and best games he’s coached, and one he and the team will never forget.
“The Riverton game was so fun and amazing to watch. The boys never game up and pushed through all the weather changes,” he said.
With their three wins last week, Green River secured the third seed at the 4A West Regional tournament starting Thursday in Rock Springs. Green River will have to defeat their opening opponent Kelly Walsh to qualify for the 4A State Tournament.
The game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
“We need to focus on our team and our play. They have to trust each other,” Bieber said.
