Ladies win regular season title

The Green River girl's soccer team once again finished on top of the regular season standings in the 4A West Conference.

With two victories last week, the Lady Wolves finished with a terrific 8-0-2 record in conference play and were 12-3-2 overall.

After opening the week with a 1-1 tie in the makeup May 13 match against Kelly Walsh, Green River picked up a 2-1 road win Thursday over Evanston and wrapped up their regular season Friday with a 10-1 senior night thumping of Riverton.

Head coach Tracy Wyant said the games against Kelly Walsh and Evanston was not their best soccer and they had something to prove going into the game Friday against Riverton.

Wyant said they did a much better job of connecting passes and talking to each other in the game and played hard on senior night.

The Lady Wolves will get an automatic bye into the state tournament later this month in Rock Springs. They will open up this week's 4A West Regional Tournament in the semifinals Friday against the winner of Rock Springs and Evanston.

The game is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Rock Springs Junior High.

Wyant said a focus this week would be keeping the team calm going into the tournament. She said they do not play as well when they are 'amped up.'
