Flying for the last time

A flag originally flown during the Battle of Khe Sanh during the Vietnam War was flown one last time before being put on permanent display at the American Legion Tom Whitmore Post 28 in Green River.

During a solemn ceremony Saturday morning, veterans gathered to show their respect for those who have died while serving their country.

"We're all comrades in arms," Ted Barney, Green River city councilman and chaplain for Post 28, said. "We all took time out of our lives to serve our country."

Tony Niemiec, Commander of Post 28, said they're honored to receive the flag. The flag was donated by Navy Petty Officer, second class, John Robert Carter, who had received it from Col. David E. Lownds, Commander of the 26th Marine Regiment, for his superior service.
