The Sweetwater County Children’s Honor Choir, sponsored by Sweetwater Board of Cooperative Education Services will perform Friday at 7 p.m. at the Rock Springs Junior High Auditorium in Rock Springs, and at the annual ‘Trills & Thrills’ Regional Music Festival in Salt Lake City on Saturday.
Members of the Choir are Aspen Arwood, London Beutel, Felicia Chambers, Savannah Cheney, Kaleb cheney, Trinity Chrisawn, Shelby Davis, Jadyn Fernandez, Sandra Figenser, Michael Guymon, Myles Harper, Kolby Jones, Jennifer Kerns, Kristin Lee, Mary McLaren Matthew Mitchell, Gabby Mitchell, Cassandra Morley, Joshua Odogwu, Emmanuel Odogwu, Ellie Pacheco, Raeven Rooks, Maggie Smith, Abby Smith, Catie Spann, Payton Stewart, Gena Stewart, Gabriel illa Labos, and and Casandra Villa Lobos.
Included in the music for the local performance will be: “Bee! I’m Expecting You!,” by Emma Lou Diemer; “Come, Follow Me,” by Linda Spevacek; “Song for a Russian Child,” by Andrea Klouse, arranged by Mark Brymer; “Sakura,” a Japanese folk song, arranged by Shirley W. McRae; “Siyahamba,” a traditional freedom song from South Africa, arranged by Rick Baitz; “Land Of Our Dreams,” based on an Armenian lullaby, adapted by Hope Harrison, and arranged by Jay Althouse; and, “Cripple Creek,” an American fiddle tune, arranged by Emily Crocker. Soloists include Raeven Rooks, Catie Spann, and Maggie Smith. The descant will be sung by Michael Guymon and Maggie Smith.
The choir is under the direction of Robin Neal, and is accompanied by Emily Durrant. Other instrumentalists include Megan Powell playing flute.
The choir will travel with their directors and chaperones to regional festival at the Clayton Middle School in Salt Lake City Saturday, where they will perform three selections before adjudicators and other performing groups.
Following their festival performance, they will end their 2015 Honor Choir season at the Lagoon Theme Park in Farmington, Utah.
Registrations for new members will take place in the fall of 2015.
