Letter: Resident chooses to shop local

Dear Editor,

Last Wednesday I realized my vehicle needed a new muffler. Since the car is 27 years old, the manufacturer no longer catalogs the part, so I called Car Quest in Green River. I was quoted a price of around $200, with an estimated delivery time of seven to ten days. I agreed to the price and delivery schedule, and was pleasantly surprised when Robin at Car Quest called Friday morning to tell me she had my part.

When I stopped at the store to pick up the muffler the clerk rang up the total and told me it would be just over $100.. I would have been perfectly satisfied paying the original quoted price, and told them so, but Robin told me she had found the part at a different supplier and at a lower price. Again, a pleasant surprise. The muffler fit perfectly, and the car now sounds like it should.

The real point of this letter is that they could have charged me the quoted price, I would have been perfectly happy, and I would have been none the wiser. Instead, they passed on their savings to me, even though they could have easily made an extra $100. That is the sign of something getting more rare these days: a business that appreciates their customers. I always try to buy locally if at all possible, and people like this are the reason why.
