Boys beat undefeated Jackson

The Green River High School boy’s soccer made a strong statement last week with a first-place finish at the Pinnacle Soccer Cup.

The Wolves won four consecutive games over the two-day tournament and defeated Jackson 2-1 in a thrilling championship game.

“I am very proud after this weekend and winning all four games,” head coach Chris Bieber said. “

After picking up 3-1 victories over both Douglas and Star Valley Friday, Green River came out focused and crushed Worland 7-0 in the Gold Bracket semifinals.

That set the stage for the finale against the Broncs where the Wolves picked up the victory in a shootout.

Bieber said Jackson challenged every aspect of their game and it was their toughest test of the tournament, but they were able to prevail in the end.

This week the squad will get back into conference play with homes games against Casper-Natrona and Kelly Walsh.

Green River (6-3-1, 2-1 4A West) will host Natrona High School (3-2-1, 1-1 4A West) Friday at 5 p.m.

“We will continue to work on our game and continue to get better at the basics,” Bieber said.

Squad gives back

The Green River High School boy’s soccer team not only shines on the field, they also take time to help out the community.

Following a recent home game against Rock Springs, members of the team conducted a food drive.

Bieber said the team captains took down the food last Thursday and they try to do at least one service project a season.

“Projects like this are very important to help to continue to teach these boys about serving others and giving back to your community” he said.
