When I am not focused, or a better word for it while shopping might be distracted, I do try to look around and see the world.
Recently, I have noticed a change or maybe I have just been too distracted by my children that this change may have occurred a while ago; and I am just not catching up with the rest of the world and noticing it.
I am not sure if I like what I see.
All I have been seeing recently is people constantly attached to their phones. I think I can even say it might be turning into an epidemic.
I mean really, does one really need to have a phone in front of them all the time? At the doctor’s office, it used to be you would visit with others to pass the time. Now, it seems that all, including kids, are glued to their phones updating Facebook, Twitter or Instagram accounts or playing games.
I must admit I too am guilty of this, but the game I usually play is Lumosity. Those not familiar with this game will soon realize it is all about keeping your brain healthy. It only takes about 15 minutes and I really do feel like it is improving my brain’s ability to remember things.
Anyway, back to real issue here.
When did we decide computer communication through the phone is more important than actual real live communication?
What’s worse, is I’ve started noticing people with blue tooth’s hooked to their ears when they are shopping. Is that phone call really that important?
I understand some may be, but really. We cannot even do our grocery shopping without a blue tooth device connected to our ears? Wow.
I just think we are so distracted by all of these things that we are starting to miss out on real-life experiences.
I just have no time for my phone while in the store with my five and three-year-old sons. They are distracting enough. I mean just the other day I forgot my wallet; and that is while I was only distracted by my kids and not a device.
The final straw for me was when I was in a store’s bathroom with my children. Yes. the bathroom of all places. I heard someone’s phone ring in the other stall; and I thought surely they would just let it ring, but no they answered it. They actually answered the phone in a public bathroom with other people in other stalls! I was a little irritated.
Of course, I thought this must be a really important phone call. Maybe from a doctor’s office or something important, but I could tell by the end of the conversation I overheard that it was just an every day conversation.
Do people not realize that the other person can hear the toilet flushing? Gross.
Anyway, after seeing and hearing all of this, I have vowed to try and keep my distracting phone something I use at home; and actually talk to others when in public. That is, if they will put their phone down long enough to have a conversation with me.
