Wolves pickup first conference victory

It was a mixed weekend of results for the Green River High School boy’s soccer team.

The Wolves opened their season with a thrilling 2-1 4A West conference victory last Friday over Evanston.

After a scoreless first half, Green River scored one minute into the second on a goal from senior standout Chase Erickson.

Evanston would answer back in the 56th minute to tie the game. The Wolves would get the game-winning goal with just three minutes left in the game on a goal from Taten Knight.

“It is great to have a conference win to start the season, but we are going to continue to get challenged as the season progresses,” head coach Chris Bieber said.

The following day, Green River traveled to Casper for three matches at a Jamboree hosted by Kelly Walsh High School.

The Wolves opened up play with Sheridan and the game that featured two 26-minute halves ended in a 1-1 tie.

In their next game, Green River lost 3-1 to Campbell County High School.

In the final match of the day, the Wolves dropped a 1-0 contest to Riverton in a game that did not count in the 4A West conference standings.

Following the games in Casper, Bieber said he learned that his team needs to do better at trusting in each other.

“We need to work on distribution and shooting the ball better,” he said.

Now 1-2-1 and 1-0 in 4A West Conference play, Green River will not play again until April 9 at Rock Springs.
