Ladies learn from Jamboree

The Kelly Walsh Jamboree was a learning experience for the Green River High School girl’s soccer team.

Following a 5-0 season opening home win over Evanston, the Lady Wolves went 1-2 at the Jamboree, which feature games with two 26-minute halves.

Green River head coach Tracy Wyant said since it’s still early in the year she had tried a lot of people in different positions, started a couple of freshman, and are still trying to figure out starting lineups.

“We learned a lot from these games,” she said. “It was a good starting point and we know where we need to go from here.”

Green River (2-2, 1-0 4A West) opened with a 2-0 victory over Riverton in a game that did not count in the 4A West Conference standings.

“We were rusty. We got the win, but it wasn’t our best soccer,” Wyant said.

In their second game of the day, Green River dropped a close 3-2 contest, in another game that will not count in the conference standings.

Wyant said the team wasn’t passing and in the groove like they were Friday against Evanston.

“We made several mistakes on our end that results in goals,” she said. “We’re going to come back and do our best to beat them the next time we play.”

In the third game of the day, The Lady Wolves were defeated by Sheridan, 2-0.

Wyant said the wind was a huge factor in the game, the team was fatigued and the Lady Wolves touches and passing were both off.

“Our touches were horrible, and our passes were not great,” she said.

“As the season goes on that’s going to get better.”

Despite the loss, Wyant feels her team is capable of beating the 4-0 Lady Broncs.

“There is not a doubt in my mind that we are not capable of beating Sheridan,” she said. “I’m 100 percent confident we can beat them.”

The Lady Wolves will not play again until April 9 at Rock Springs.
