Seniors make valentines

Valentines Day may only take place one day a year, but residents at Mission at Castle Rock Rehabilitation Center were making Valentine crafts for days.

During the past few Friday craft sessions with Kathy Elliott, the group worked on Valentine crafts, including cards, bags and necklaces.

Last Friday was no different, at first the group was working on necklaces, which were made out of yarn and heart-shaped stickers of various colors, including pink, orange, blue, red, purple and green.

Elliott told the group the best way to put the stickers on is to put the yarn in a circle.

"You want to make it look like a necklace at the store," she said.

Once the necklace was laid out, the CRRC residents started applying the stickers to them. Elliott suggested they put the heaviest or biggest sticker on the bottom first and work their way up.

Pam Colliner and Jennie Davis were enjoying the necklace-making activity.

Davis said she used to embroider and crochet so to do something crafty was fun.

"Anything to keep me busy," Davis said. "They try to keep me busy. God bless them."

Activities assistant Kathy McCormick said for the past two weeks the CRRC craft group worked on Valentines bags. These bags were white with all sorts of heart stickers and drawings on them. Each resident was given a bag to put their Valentines in, McCormick said. The bags they were making was something McCormick remembered making in elementary school, but it was still just as fun.

That's not all the Valentines activities the group completed. Elliott said the group also made 100 Valentines for the Valentines for Veterans program. Those valentines were sent to the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake City.

Newcomer to the craft group, Davis said, "You people are very ambitious."
