Squads gear up for RS

The Green River High School girl’s basketball team won’t need much motivation in seeking their first conference win of the season.

In their only game of the week, the Lady Wolves will host rival Rock Springs Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Rock Springs will come into the game with a 2-0 conference record and Carroll said a key to a Green River win will be taking better care of the basketball.

“We turn the ball over sometimes when it’s not a contested turnover and we really need to stop that. I don’t think our decision making is bad, we just can’t let the ball slip through our hands,” he said.

Another key listed by Carroll was for the Lady Wolves to do a better job rebounding, especially on the defensive end of the court.

Last week, Green River opened 4A West Conference play on the road with a 54-26 loss to Evanston.

Saturday, Green River dropped a 51-36 contest to Evanston to fall to 0-2 in conference play.

Looking back at last week’s games, Carroll said the team is doing okay with defense, but against Riverton, they had two many turnovers, and against Evanston their turnovers came at key times in the game.

He said they can’t make the turnovers that lead to transition baskets.

BOYS

The Green River High School boy’s basketball team will host Rock Springs at 7 p.m. The game will be the third 4A West Conference game for the squads who both lost last week to Evanston and Riverton.

Wolves head coach Dan LaRose said he hopes is team is mentally ready for the challenge of playing a rivalry game.

He said there will be a lot of energy in the arena and it will be up for grabs for both teams. LaRose wants his team to grab the energy and have it fuel them.

LaRose said in any rivalry game you worry about the intensity of the team being to strong.

“But I’d rather be able to have the conversation to gear ‘em down, than bring them up,” he said.

The second-year coach said Rock Springs runs an offense that spreads the court and they look to attack drive lines. He said his team needs to cut down those lanes.

On offense, LaRose said they need to have patience and run a balanced attack.

Green River opened conference play Thursday on the road with a 74-58 loss to third-ranked Evanston. They dropped a 68-40 home contest Saturday to Riverton.
