County library ghost book development continues

The long awaited book detailing alleged supernatural activity at the Sweetwater County Library remains in development, according to Reference Librarian Micki Gilmore.

Gilmore said some of the chapters are still receiving edits to them and photo cutlines still need to be typed, but the process is nearing the end.

“I just finished typing up the ghost log reports we’ll use,” Gilmore said. “I’m getting all excited ... like a little kid at Christmas.”

At one point, publication of the book was expected to take place last year, however with staff turnover and additional projects Gilmore and other library employees have undertaken, the book’s publication was held off. The book will detail the history of the land the Sweetwater County Library was built on, as well as reports involving ghostly activity occurring at the library. Those reports include portions of the ghost log, a book of reports made by librarians and visitors, as well as personal accounts regarding spiritual activity. Some of the activity reported includes catching spiritual images in photos taken at the library, mysterious voices appearing on audio recordings and sightings of ghostly apparitions.

One of the more time consuming aspects of gathering information for the book has been obtaining releases from people either interviewed for the book or have reported an experience in the ghost log. Gilmore said the deadline for the releases is approaching and those not received will result in certain reports utilizing a person’s initials or simply identifying the person as anonymous. Despite the setback, Gilmore expects this year to be the year the book to be published. She said they aim to self publish through Amazon.com’s Create Space and believes local interest will generate a high number of sales. Sales from the book will go to benefit the Sweetwater County Library Foundation.
