Joseph R. Martinez, 72, of San Antonio, Texas, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, after a brief illness.
He was born July 14, 1942, in Chamisal, New Mexico, the son of Tomas and Claudina Martinez. He was raised in Green River and graduated with the Class of 1961.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in January 1962 and again in November 1964. Martinez served in Vietnam and received an honorable discharge in 1968.
He lived in San Antonio and worked as a truck driver.
His interests included camping, fishing, playing guitar, singing and visiting with family and friends.
Survivors include sons Tony Malone, Demetirus, Jamin and Danny Martinez; stepchildren Frank, Laura and LeeAnna; grandson; great-granddaughter; former spouses Eva Martinez, both of San Antonio; and Selma Juarez of San Antonio; sisters Alice Ussery and husband, Johnny, of Folsom, California; Angie Martinez and partner, Dean Halverson, of Rock Springs, Margie Taylor and husband, Allen, of Henderson, Nevada, Gloria Rutherford and husband, Rex, and Sally Seelen and husband, Red, of Green River; brothers Tom Martinez and wife, Frances, Bob Martinez and wife, Raini, and Rick Martinez and wife, Julie, all of Green River, and Sammy Martinez of Las Vegas, Nevada; lifelong friend Andy Hinjosa of Green River; and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Bonnie and Esther; and brother Amos.
There will be a memorial service in his honor in June.

Dad I am so lucky to have had you as the one to teach, and mold me into the Gentleman I am today. I miss you so much, it hurts, but I'm glad you are not having to witness all this turmoil that our world is going through with this covid-19 pandemic. Until we meet again I will up hold our name to the highest and allow people to see the man you made was worth your time, effort and dedication. We Love and miss you everyday dad.
