John Edward Gallagher, 80, of Rock Springs passed away Jan. 16, 2015 at Deer Trail Assisted Living in Rock Springs. A longtime resident of Rock Springs, Gallagher passed away following a brief illness.
He was born on Oct. 2, 1934 in Chicago, the son of the late William Edward Gallagher and Effie Lanting.
Gallagher attended schools in Chicago and graduated from Harrison High School with the class of 1954.
He married Bernice Marie Menghini in Rock Springs on March 30, 1957 and she preceded him in death on May 30, 2014.
Gallagher served in the United States Air Force.
He worked at Union Merc, Safeway and as a custodian for Sweetwater County School District No. 1 for many years.
Gallagher was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Community, Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 151 and Young At Heart Senior Citizen's Center.
Survivors include three daughters, Kathleen Vesco of Rock Springs, Margaret Woodward of Kemmerer, and Karen Gallagher of Billings, Mont.; one brother William "Bill" Gallagher; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one niece and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Bernice Marie Gallagher and one brother ,Dan Gallagher.
Following cremation, a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church at 633 Bridger Avenue in Rock Springs.
A vigil service with rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday at the church. Private family graveside services will take place.
Friends may call at the church on Thursday, one hour prior to the rosary and on Friday at the church one hour prior to the funeral.
The family of John Edward Gallagher respectfully suggests that donations in his memory be made to Young At Heart Senior Citizens Center at 2400 Reagan Avenue in Rock Springs.
