New GR parks director hired

The city’s new parks and recreation director started Monday, taking the position that had been vacant since Allan Wilson retired and was subsequently voted on to the Green River City Council last year.

The new director, Brad Raney, comes to Green River after working in Casper as the city’s recreation supervisor for seven years. According to a press release from the city, Raney has a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from BYU and a master’s degree in physical education and athletic administration from Idaho State University. While in Casper, he produced cultural and athletic events for Casper, growing a number of them into regional attractions.

Raney said he brings with him the contacts from those events, though isn’t sure if he’ll be bringing similar events to Green River.

Raney chose to apply in Green River because of both the career opportunity it represents, as well as the fact the community itself was very warm and inviting while he visited the city.

“We were impressed with how nice the people are,” he said.

He said he’s also impressed with the number of amenities offered to Green River’s residents through the parks and recreation department.

“I am so excited to be in Green River with so many beautiful parks and vast recreational opportunities. I look forward to leading the Parks and Recreation department to provide outstanding recreational opportunities leading to a healthy and happy community,” Raney said in the city’s press release.
