Basketball squads get second shot at Braves

The Green River High School boy’s and girls basketball teams won’t have to wait long to start the 2015 portion of their schedule, and they will do so against a familiar foe.

After losing their home openers earlier this month against Star Valley, the two squads will look to exact revenge on the road Friday night in Afton.

In their first game of the season, the Green River boy’s (0-4) jumped out to an early 18-9 lead in the first half, before Star Valley went on a 17 point run on their way to a 57-42 victory.

Following the game, Green River head coach Dan LaRose said he had talked to his team all week that if they came out and played they way they been practicing, they’d be in good shape, and they did at the start.

LaRose said his team is still young and learning how to play is closer game, something they did not have last season.

“We have to learn how to withstand the run and make another one of our own. That’s just something we will have to learn,” he said.

“But we’re going to be a lot more competitive by just the way we play.”

The Green River Lady Wolves opened the 2014-15 season with a 63-26 loss to Star Valley.

It will be the first game for new head coach Rick Carroll who took the reigns from Aric Hanusa.
