The Green River High School wrestling team didn’t take an easy route to start the 2014-15 season.
The Wolves lost a 42-27 home duel to Uintah (Utah) High School. Green River won five of the 14 matches against the team whose season has been going for almost a month.
Cyro Montoya, Cole Verner, Gage Byers, Austin Waters and Jordan Tucker all picked up for the Wolves.
For the most part we wrestled pretty hard for the first match of the year, this team gave us an opportunity to see what we need to focus on,” head coach Marshall Rhodes said.
“Vernal is a good program with some very good wrestlers and we competed hard. I look forward to wrestling them again later in the season, I think we will be in better shape, will fix some mistakes we made, and turn some matches around.
Also wrestling varsity for the team against Vernal were Nathan McCann, Chase Omelia, Shandon Welsh, Kole Case, Hunter Hanks, Blake Waite, Edgar Alatorre and Brendan Hopkins, Derrik Erickson and Kaycee Cochrane both picked up wins in the junior varsity division.
