It will be a tough test right out of the gates for the Green River High School wrestling team.
The Wolves will start the 2014-15 season tomorrow night with a dual against Uintah (Utah) High School.
Green River head coach Marshall Rhodes said the Vernal-based team has already been wrestling for about a month and their kids will probably have anywhere between eight and 12 matches under their belts. The Wolves started practice for this season Dec. 1.
Rhodes said what he is pushing the first couple weeks of practice is for his to try and get in as good of shape as possible.
“Vernal (Uintah) is a really consistent, and very good program. We always have very hard fought duals against them,” he said. “They’re going to be tough.”
Because Uintah is already well into their season, Rhodes expects a tough dual and much like Green River he said they have some pretty good kids returning from last years team.
“Vernal is well coached. They have good technique. They have a great program,” Rhodes said.
While he does expect tough competition, Rhodes said the dual will definitely show Green River what they need to start working on.
Green River will continue the season Friday when they travel to Evanston for a two-day tournament.
The Wolves travel to compete in Grand Junction, Colo. next week.
