There’s not much difference between the 2014 and 2015 regular season schedule for the Green River High School football team.
The Wolves will play the same eight teams the same week of the season they played them last year, with the only difference being the location of the games.
After playing Riverton, Torrington, Star Valley and Cody on the road in 2014, those teams will be coming to Wolves Stadium in 2015.
Green River will travel to Rawlins, Powell, Jackson, and Worland.
Seven of those eight teams made the playoffs last season.
Wolves head coach Don Maggi said he does not have control over the varsity schedule, but he is happy with the way it turned out.
Maggi likes the fact there will not be as many long trips and that Green River will not have to make the long trip across the state to Torrington.
The one slight difference with the Wolves schedule will be during the zero week where they will host a jamboree against Mountain View and Lander. Last year the team traveled to Laramie for a zero week scrimmage against Douglas.
Maggi said he has been talking with the Mountain View and Lander coaches about the format for the jamboree. He said last year against Douglas they ran special teams, did some situational work, and than ran more of a game-type atmosphere.
“I try to use it as an opportunity to teach. The coaches can get in the huddle and correct things,” Maggi said.
With two teams coming to the jamboree, Maggi said it will be a nice thing to have because they are going to face two different offensive and defensive schemes.
“It’s a teaching opportunity for our and their kids,” he said.
The Wolves will open the regular season at home against Riverton. The second week of the season they will travel to Rawlins. In week three they return home to face Torrington before returning to the road for two consecutive games against Powell and Jackson.
Green River will play their only two consecutive home games in week six and seven when they host Star Valley, then defending 3A champion Cody.
They will conclude their season on the road against Worland.
