Middle school swimmers off to great start

Seventy-five come out for team

It’s been a great start to the season for the Green River Middle School swim team.

According to coach Michele O’Melia, the girls are focusing on team commitment and having fun.

She said there are 75 girls out for this year’s team and many of them have dropped their times.

O’Melia added that they won the Jackson Invite Nov. 8, and it was the first time they have done that in several years.

Green River won the meet with 297 points. Jackson was second with 219 points, Lyman was third, Evanston-Davis was fourth, Pinedale finished fifth, Kemmerer was sixth and Big Piney finished in seventh place.

Green River started off the meet in impressive fashion by winning the first meet the 200 -yard medley. The team of Cheryl Moritz, Emilee Mandros, Ashley Jensen and Kiersten Plott won by almost nine seconds over the second place team from Jackson.

Sydni Sanders continued the hot start with a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle.

Mandros had a great swim in the 100-yard breaststroke and also finished in first place. Kinley Cochrane finished second and Moritz ended up in sixth place.

In the 100-yard IM, Ashley Jensen was the top finisher for Green River in fifth place. Lauren Jensen finished sixth, Cochrane was eighth and Kaisa Arnell ended up in tenth.

Arnell had a solid day diving and finished the 1 meter competition in second place. Raena Fitch finished the event in fifth. Elena Wendel ended up in tenth place.

Sanders finished second in the 50-yard freestyle. Plott ended up in fifth and Jade Arnell was sixth.

In the 50-yard butterfly, Ashely Jensen finished second, Lauren Jensen finished third, Emilee Mandros finished fourth and Marin Mandors ended in sixth place.

Arnell finished fifth in the 100-yard freestyle and Plott ended up in sixth place. Sayg Stojadknovie finished in ninth place.

Moritz finished third in the 100-yard backstroke. Jay Wright finished fifth, Emily Reyes was sixth and Sara Forester ended up in ninth place.

The 200-yard freestyle relay “A” team of Arnell, Reyes, Sanders and Stojadinovie finished third.

The “B” team of Patience Bently, Alexa Lauze, Lauren Lee, and Ce’Nedra Hooley finished in sixth.

The “C” team of Mya Wheeler, Amelin Mommsen, Kaitlin Meyring and Charlotte Klein ended up in ninth place.
