Green River Chamber seeking future leaders

The Green River Chamber of Commerce is looking for the next generation of leaders.

The chamber is once again partnering with Western Wyoming College and the Rock Springs Chamber for the 16th annual Sweetwater County Leadership Institute.

“It’s a really great class,” Green River Chamber Director Rebecca Eusek said. “We want to bring out leaders in the community.”

The seven-part institute will start with a orientation Jan. 12 at Western Wyoming.

Students will spend the day training, meeting and networking with classmates, and discussing course objectives and requirements.

The institute will than meet seven more times with the topics of business and human services, government, health care, education, industry and cultural and recreation.

Eusek said just the amount of places the students get to see make it worthwhile.

“Even if you’ve lived in Sweetwater County you’re whole life, you will go to places you’ve might not have been got. A lot of people have not been underground at a trona mine,” she said.

Students must attend seven sessions to graduate, but will be allowed one excused absence with prior arrangements. Their will be to industry sessions. The first on May 19 will include a trona mine tour and the June 4 session will tour industry sites East of Rock Springs. Students must attend one of the two industry sessions.

A graduation dinner is planned for June 22.

Eusek said that the class gives local residents great networking opportunities and they get to meet so many people from different industries.

“Everyone who takes the class says it’s one of the best classes they’ve ever taken,” she said.

Another benefit listed by Eusek was that the graduates of the 2015 class will help make the agenda for the 2016 class.

She said that is a learning experience and also helps with leadership qualities.

The cost for the institute is $250 and is on a first come, first serve basis.

Graduates will assist with the coordination for the 17th annual institute in 2016.
