Fresh off a second-place finish and near title earlier this month at the 4A West Regional Meet in Evanston, the Green River High School swim team will look to continue their hot postseason run at the state tournament this week in Gillette.
A total of nine Lady Wolves swimmers have qualified for the 4A State Tournament that takes place Oct. 30 and 31.
Dakota Neumann, Emily Allen, Elizabeth Barker, Brianna Rath, Shyana Hunt, Taylor Orr, Jesse Lauze, Avery Otto-Horn and Kaylee Plott will all be competing at the meet that will feature the 12 Wyoming 4A Schools.
In her first year on the team, Lauze said it was really cool to be able to make it to state and a lot of freshman aren’t able to do it. She said she put in a lot of work to qualify.
After the strong performance at regionals, she is hoping the Lady Wolves can finish in the top six.
Individually, she would also like to finish in the top six in her events.
She finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke at regionals and will also compete in the 200-yard IM and the 200-yard medley relay who also finished first at state.
Other members of the first-place relay team are Hunt, Allen and Plott.
Fellow freshman Otto-Horn will also be going to state with a regional title. She finished first in the 50-yard freestyle.
Green River will also be a forced to be reckoned with in their other two relay events.
At the regional meet earlier this month, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Hunt, Plott, Orr and Neumann finished in second place. The 400-yard freestyle relay team also finished in second place. Members of the team were Elizabeth Barker, Orr, Neumann and Avery Otto-Horn.
While focused on the state meet last week, just moments before a Last Chance Meet last week at Monroe School, Lauze sees a bright future for Green River swimming.
She said there are a lot of girls in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade that will be joining the current team.
