The driver's side window and windshield of a bus owned by SW-WRAP are shattered after a weekend attack by vandals. Every pane of glass was broken or chipped in the vandalism.
A bus owned by SW-WRAP was severely vandalized during the weekend, resulting in damages that the nonprofit organization says it can't cover.
Cathie Hughes, director of SW-WRAP, said she first noticed the damage to their van Sunday morning, after deciding to do some work. Every pane of glass installed on the small bus was damaged or completely shattered. According to Det. Luke Benson with the Green River Police Department, the case is being investigated as a felony-level vandalism. Those cases involve more than $1,000 worth of damage. An estimated value for the bus was not available as of press time.
Hughes believes the damage didn't come from children, thinking larger adults or teenagers are the only people capable of damaging the vehicle to the extent they did.
The vandalism occurred sometime between Friday evening and Sunday morning. Allyson Allo, an outreach coordinator for SW-WRAP, said the vehicle wasn't damaged when she left Friday.
According to Hughes, this isn't the first time people have vandalized the vehicle. Last summer, she said someone had broken the windshield, a vandalism small enough for the organization to replace.
She also said someone had broken into the vehicle and drained the battery, something they were also able to fix.
This however, is too much for SW-WRAP.
"It's so severe ... basically it's totaled," Hughes said. "Whoever did this really robbed the community."
The case is under investigation through the GRPD. Anyone with information about the vandalism is encouraged to contact either the GRPD or SW-WRAP.
