Green River runners finish second

The season is winding down for the Green River High School cross country team.

The Wolves will start the 2014 post season with the 4A West Regionals Thursday at the Paradise Valley Golf Course in Casper.

Green River head coach Steve Boyd said the team will cut back on the volume of their worksouts and concentrate on their quality.

He said hopefully the team will be rested for regionals and they will run well.

"Hopefully we will get some good performances," he said.

ROCK SPRINGS

Green River wrapped up the regular season portion of its schedule last Friday at the Rock Springs Invite.

The boys and girls teams both finished second at the race that took place at White Mountain Golf Course. Rock Springs took first place as a team in both races.

Boyd said he was pleased with the way with the team performed.

The top finisher for the boys team was senior Austin Waters, who ended up in eighth place with a time of 18:23. Braden Reichl was just behind him with a time of 18:29 and a ninth place finish. Shawn McGuire ended up in 10th, five seconds behind Reichl.

Jaryn Johnson was 15th with a time of 18:56 and Curtis Westenskow ended the invite in 16th at 18:59. Greg Vanderpool was 29th with at time of 20:04, Miles Moffat finished 30th at 20:07, Christian Gayton was 31st at 20:08 and Caleb Nathan was 32nd at 20:19.

Junior Josie Givens was the top overall finisher for Green River. She finished in second with a time of 19:31.

Nicole Davis was seventh with a time of 21:23, Sarah Joyner finished ninth at 22:00, Cassie Newcomb was 11th with a time of 22:09 and Cheyenne McMichael ended the race with a time of 22:28.

Kaleigh Allison came in 23rd with a time of 24:33, Mary Shafe ended with a time of 25:28 and Kirsten Knezovich finished with a time of 28:25.
