John Matthew Murie, 45, of Rock Springs, passed away Oct. 11.
He was born on Oct. 13, 1968 in Cedar City, Utah, the son of the late Stewart and Beverly Murie.
He attended schools in Beaver, Utah and Rock Springs and was a 1987 graduate of the Rock Springs High School.
Murie was employed for eight years at the Parks Department in Rock Springs and later worked construction.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Murie enjoyed athletics while he was in school and later was an inventor and invented a magnetic motor.
He also liked to build things and was an accomplished song writer.
Survivors include one son, Marcus Murie of Rock Springs; three brothers, David Murie of Logan, Utah, Stewart Murie and Todd Edwards, both of Rock Springs; six sisters, Monali Peters and husband Bob of Rock Springs, Nicole Edwards and husband Jesse of Athol, Idaho, LaRene Edwards and husband Jed of Rock Springs, Carolyn Murie of Oregon, Angela Bell of Eagle Mountain, Utah and Merikae Leavitt of Tremonton, Utah; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m., Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Rock Springs. Bishop David Stauffer will conduct the services. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services.
