GR harriers headed to Park City

The Green River High School cross country team had some strong performances at the Glen Legler Cross Country Invitational in Casper.

Josie Givens continued her torrid 2014 pace with a second place finish and a time of 20:01.35. Campbell County sophomore Sydney Wendt won the race with a time of 19:49.53.

Head coach Steve Boyd said Givens continues to run strong and she was right there with Wendt, who finished second at state last season.

Boyd said Cheyenne McMichael who finished 16th with a time of 22:44 did a great job and set a personal best.

Nicole Davis finished in 19th with a time of 22:49.35.

Much like he had earlier this season in Utah, head coach Steve Boyd split the Lady Wolves team up into a junior varsity and varsity squad to allow some of the younger runners to compete with those in their age group.

Sophomore Sarah Joyner finished second in the junior varsity race and freshman Kaleigh Allison finished in third. Freshman Kirsten Knezovich finished in 38th place.

He praised Joyner and Allison for strong races.

In the boys varsity race, Curtis Westenskow was the top finisher for Green River. The junior finished 16th with a time of 18:37.36.

Sophomore Braden Reichl finished 18th with a time of 18:38.84, senior Austin Waters was 21st with at result of 18:45.27, freshman Brayden Kovick was 25th wiht a time of 19:00.53, Jaryn Johnson finished in 33rd with a time of 19:43.14 and Shawn McGuire ended the race in 36th place and a time of 20:00.77.

As a team, the boys finished fifth out of six teams.

Freshman Greg Vanderpool was the top finisher in the junior varsity race for Green River. He finished 18th with a time of 20:39.30. Christian Gayton finished 19th with a time of 20:43.41. Caleb Nathan finished 26th out of 78 runners with a final time of 21:39.57. Miles Moffat finished 32nd with a run of 22:07.63.

The team will next compete Friday at the Park City Invite.

Boyd said they are in the process of putting together their five or six-person teams, but was unsure if he would spilt up the younger runners in Park City.

He added it should be a big meet for the team.
