Lucille Martha Grothe Hanks, 89, of Green River, died Aug. 28 at Mission at Castle Rock Rehabilitation Center. A longtime resident of Green River and former resident of Manila, Utah, Hanks passed away suddenly.
She was born in Taylorsville, Utah on Jan. 26, 1925, the daughter of the late William A. Grothe and Martha Griguhn. She was raised south of Manila in South Valley.
Hanks was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
She married Reed H. "Sonny" Hanks, Jr. in Evanston May of 1964 and he preceded her in death in Green River on Feb. 23, 1982.
Hanks attended schools in Manila, Utah and graduated from Manila High School with the class of 1942.
Her interests included the love of genelogy, gardening, fishing and her dogs.
Survivors include three children, Jeannette Palmer and husband John, Gary Pope and wife Karen and Debby Hardman and husband Rob, all of Green River; nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Reed H. "Sonny" Hanks, Jr, two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 120 Shoshone in Green River. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday one hour prior to services.
