Labor day won’t be a day to only observe the achievements workers have contributed to the county, the Southwestern Wyoming Central Labor Council encourages residents to help those facing hunger as well.
As part of its annual Labor Day Picnic and horseshoe tournament, the Council is sponsoring a food drive, with donations going to Food Bank of Sweetwater County. According to a media release about the drive, the food bank needs packaged side dishes, canned meat, egg noodles, sugar, flower, breakfast cereal and other non-perishable items.
The picnic takes place Monday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Crossroads Park west of Rock Springs. Food and beverages are provided and the picnic is free to the public.
The council represents 18 local unions and thousands of workers in southwest Wyoming. Their goal is to educate residents about workers’ rights through state and local union efforts. The council helps provide equal pay to men and women and strives to create safe working environments. The council also encourages members to participate in their communities and spend their wages locally.
