Mission at Castle Rock Rehabilitation Center has been making changes to the inside of the building.
Activities Director Annie Walk said last Thursday Mission at Castle Rock employees and some of its residents painted the foyer.
Walk said this goes along with the other changes that are gradually taking place. So far, the hallways and foyer have new floors and the foyer has a fresh coat of paint.
She said the renovations are not just focused on the center because The Villa will have all of its rooms renovated. These renovations include taking out the bathtub and putting in a shower.
During the paint day, Walk said the residents were invited to help and seemed to enjoy it.
"I think they were excited to help," Walk said. "(It is) more home centered instead of the institutional atmosphere."
"We're trying to give them things that they want to do. Things that are validating," she said.
The paint day also brought the employees together. It was something different; and something that gives us ownership.
The facility is really starting to look different, which is one of the reasons why the center is hosting a rummage, bake sale and open house on Sept 11 and 12 from 2-6 p.m. in the multipurpose room.
"We will take donations up until that point," Walk said.
The center is asking the community to bring any rummage sale items they may have, however, clothes and books will not be accepted.
As for the baked goods, anything goes. From cookies, pies, cakes and brownies to breads and rolls. Walk said baked goods can be in any portion size from single to family. All of the money raised from the rummage and baked-good sale will go to into the activities and facilities fund.
Walk said the residents are getting excited to have the community see the changes and help out with the sales.
Those wanting to help out with the rummage or bake sale by volunteering time can call Walk at the center.
