With non-conference tournament play set to start next week, head coach Laurie Ivie is already happy with what she's seeing from the Green River High School boys basketball team. After a week of tryouts, the Wolves' practices started this week. Ivie said the first few tournaments the team will play in December and early January will allow the Wolves to size up the competition they face this season, as well as give her coaching staff an opportunity to experiment with different players and...
Longtime Green River High School volleyball coach Rikki Shantz has decided to step down from her position. An announcement was issued Tuesday evening by Athletics Director Tony Beardsley. “It has been an honor to work with so many great student-athletes over the years,” Shantz said in a statement released by Beardsley. “Watching my volleyball girls chase their dreams and give their all has been the joy of my life. My heart and life are better because of the great people in this chapter of my life. My next chapter will be watching my daugh...
It wasn’t until 1955 when hunters could harvest the historic wild turkey in Wyoming. Hunters’ interest has continued to gain momentum since. With both fall and spring seasons to chase gobblers, hunters’ stealthy pursuits provide excellent food for their families and mementos of feathers, beards and spurs to commemorate the hunt long after. It all started in 1935, when the Wyoming Game and Fish Department swapped sage grouse with New Mexico for 15 Merriam’s turkeys – nine hens and six toms. The imports were released on the George Waln Ranch on...
A Lady Wolf will be playing soccer for Casper College after she graduates in May. Kiley Strange signed a letter of intent to play for Casper College last week with family and coaches by her side. Strange said she is extremely excited for the opportunity, saying she will stay in state for her first two years of college. During those two years, she plans to study business, saying she wants to be an entrepreneur, but doesn't know what she wants to do beyond that. She also said she doesn't plan to...
It was around 10:30 p.m. Friday night when the Green River Lady Wolves swim team rolled back into town after a long two days of competing in Gillette, but the late hour didn't stop the celebration as the swimmers brought home their second consecutive 3A state championship plaque. Lights flashed and sirens blared as the Green River Police Department and Green River Fire Department escorted the bus full of swimmers and cars full of family and friends through town. When the procession pulled up to...
It is a rivalry for the ages. It is a series played in three different centuries, dating back to the first meeting in 1899. And for both of this week’s teams -- the Wyoming Cowboys and the Colorado State Rams -- it is the oldest rivalry in both schools’ histories. This Saturday will see the Cowboys and Rams meet on a football field for the 113th time in The Border War. The game is schedule to kick off at 1:30 p.m., Mountain Time, from Wyoming’s War Memorial Stadium. Wyoming will enter Saturday’s game with a 4-4 overall record and an 0-4 rec...

By HANNAH ROMERO Staff Writer As they look forward to competing at state Nov. 4 and 5, the Lady Wolves swim team brought home another win from the Conference swim meet in Pinedale last weekend. “I was happy with our swims this weekend,” Coach Colleen Seiloff said. “We kept working hard all last week and went into Conference tired, and so I thought they swam really well.” Seiloff said the competition at Conference was good and the other teams had strong swimmers. She explained that the 3A Conf...
The Wolves completed a very tough schedule with a one-sided loss to the always tough Star Valley to finish the season 0-8 despite playing hard and never giving up all season. The Braves got 221 yards rushing from their top running back and had no less than 23 players on the team with an offensive stat as they spread the ball around and played error-free ball with no turnovers. The Wolves had a respectable 310 yards in total offense including six receptions to senior wide receiver Dylan Taylor, who set the all-time single-season pass receiving...
Green River hosted the Cody Broncs, falling to the No. 1 ranked and undefeated defending 3A State Football Champions, 48-20 Friday night. Considering how Cody has dominated every opponent to date, the Wolves may well have played their best game of the season without the services of three of their top players on offense and defense. Cody won the coin flip to start the game and elected to receive. After a good kickoff return Cody ran the ball seven times, showing why they lead the State in that...

The Green River High School swim team has had an impressive season so far, and they're "tuning up" to face the last three weeks. The Lady Wolves brought home another win last weekend when they faced six other teams in Rawlins on Saturday, beating the home team by 132 points. Coach Coleen Seiloff said it was a change of pace to only compete one day after five days of practice, but the girls swam well. "We're starting to get towards the end of the season, they're tired, but they are working, so I'...
Despite coming off two straight losses to the two top ranked teams in 3A, the Powel Panthers head coach in a pre-game interview indicated that his fourth ranked team was at its healthiest it has been all season and just had their best week of practice which turned out to not be good news for the visiting Wolves, who had some key injuries and were looking for their first win of the season. The game was played in cold temperatures with wind and pouring rain on Powell’s artificial turf field. The Wolves won the coin toss to start the game, but d...
Green River traveled north to take on the powerful 4-0 Jackson Broncs last week, suffering another loss at the end of the night. Jackson wasted no time in their first possession as they opened up their strong passing attack and took a quick 7-0 lead. The Wolves took over and ran six plays with the help of a 15-yard personal foul against Jackson, but Dylan Tayor ended up punting to the 35 yard line with Hayden Roberts making the tackle on Jackson’s receiver. Jackson would soon extend its lead to 13-0, unable to capitalize on a P.A.T., f...

The Wolves took another loss Friday night as the Evanston Red Devils held them to only one touchdown during Green River’s homecoming game, winning it 27-7. While the Wolves’ previous outing with the Worland Warriors was a high-scoring contest, Green River’s meeting with Evanston was more defensive as both teams initially struggled to find the end zone. The Wolves were the first to receive, but were forced to punt as they sized up the Evanston defense. Evanston’s first possession of the game near...
