This past Saturday, the Green River High School Boys and Girls Track and Field teams competed with 11 other teams from Wyoming at the Ted Schroeder “Meet of Hope” hosted by Rock Springs High School. After being one of the first athletes to play softball for Green River High School, Madison Yoak will be continuing her softball career at Glenville State University. While the Wolves Girls and Boys Track and Field teams were scheduled for a track meet in Cheyenne this past week, road closures put a damper on those plans. However, Green River and several other teams were able to secure entry into the D & D Track Invitational in Worland. The meet ended up hosting 31 teams with over 1,000 athletes, and over 200 runners in one of the events. Two girls from Green River competed at the Twin Rivers Girls National Duals in Des Moines, Iowa on March 31 through April 2. To compete at nationals, the girls had to qualify to compete in the National Tournament and both girls qualified at the Ron Thon Tournament in Riverton earlier in the wrestling season. The Green River High School Boys and Girls Track and Field teams caught a break in the weather this past Saturday, April 1, to travel a short distance south to Vernal, Utah for the 2023 Uintah Invitational Track meet. The meet was hosted by Uintah High School on their home track. There were five teams from Southwest Wyoming, along with seven teams from Northern Utah. It was a team effort for the Green River Wolves during the victorious win against the Pinedale Wranglers last Friday. The Green River Wyoming Pickleball Club was officially started on January 1 of this year, although they were an informal group for over a year before Michael Chaffin stepped up to organize the club. Their mission statement is to strive to create fun, friendship and fitness through their shared enjoyment of the sport of pickleball. Hailey Uhrig is a Green River High School graduate with the class of 2022. Uhrig swam on Green River's Swimming and Diving team all four years of high school, receiving All-State honors every year she swam.
