    After their opening weekend of tennis action, Green River High School head coach Phil Harder is enthusiastic about the 2014 season. "Things are looking good for Green River tennis," he said.     The Green River High School tennis team opened the season with two down-to-the-wire battles against visiting Powell and Cody. In their first action of the season Friday against Powell, both the Green River boys and girls both put up valiant efforts before each fell 3-2 to the visiting Panthers.     It's less than two days till the Green River High School football team takes to the field to kickoff the 2014 season. After opening last season at home, the Wolves will take to the road for their opener this year with a game Friday night at 7 p.m. against Riverton.     It can be said that champions are made during the offseason, and if the summer was any indication it could be a solid year for the Green River High School volleyball team.     The Green River Lady Wolves showed some positive signs to start the 2014 season at a tournament in Cokeville. And while Green River was only able to pick up one victory in their first six games, head coach Rikki Shantz was pleased with her team who picked up their lone win over Rich County, Utah.     The Green River High School swim team got out of the gates in superb fashion to start the 2014 season. On their second day of competition, four Lady Wolves finished in the top 20 at the Rawlins Pentathlon. Freshman Avery Otto-Horn was impressive in her second high school meet and ended up third overall. Junior Dakota Neumann finished in sixth, freshman Jesse Lauze finished in ninth, Taylor Orr ended up in 19th and Emily Allen finished the event in 20th place.     It was a strong start to the season for the Green River Lady Wolves cross country team. Competing for the only time at home this season, The Lady Wolves were able to finish first out of eight teams at the annual Green River Invitational. Green River was sparked by the performance of junior Josie Givens who put on an amazing effort and just missed out on first place by a second.     There will be a solid mix of returners and newcomers for the 2014 Green River High School Cross County team. The Lady Wolves will return four members who competed at the 2013 state meet in Sheridan. Leading the way for the squad will be senior Nicole Davis and junior Josie Givens.
