The Wyoming National Guard will complete two weeks of training at the Greater Green River Intergalactic Spaceport in August. Responding to seven calls within five hours, the Green River Fire Department had a busy day last week. The calls took place from 3-8 p.m., Wednesday and included a structure fire reported at 4:30 p.m., at 610 Wilson St. According to Larry Erdmann, assistant fire chief, the fire was caused by a plastic cigarette butt container placed next to the trailer. Green River is joining a group of cities in monitoring sewage for presence of the novel coronavirus. Last week, the city council voted to approved a contract with the Wyoming Department of Health to monitor sewage for the virus. The Green River City Council approved the city’s annual budget last week, but not without budgeting for decreased revenues related to the coronavirus pandemic. While the city funded all of its community service grants at 2019 levels and maintained employee salaries, the budget was based on $750,000 a month in revenue versus $850,000 in 2019. Mosquito prevention measures have started in Green River. The city’s parks and recreation department has already begun to place “BTI biscuits” in areas of standing water on city property. These biscuits prevent mosquito larvae from developing and becoming biting adults. Recent alcohol and tobacco compliance checks conducted by the Green River Police Department last week didn’t show complete compliance. Citations were issued to three businesses for failure to ensure tobacco or alcohol wasn’t being sold to underage customers. For tobacco, the Get N Go convenience store and the Vape Shop failed compliance checks, while Mansface Liquor failed an alcohol compliance check.
