ROCK SPRINGS (Wyoming News Exchange) — Thera Leanne Siler, 41, of Green River has been convicted of a felony charge of abuse of a vulnerable adult for an incident involving her father. A jury returned with a guilty verdict during a trial in Sweetwater County District Court on Monday and Tuesday. Siler was not convicted on a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery. Green River has recently completed a series of energy-efficient projects which will save the taxpayers thousands of dollars each year. The city’s parks and recreation department completed six different projects over the course of three years, which will result in an estimated cost savings of $56,000 yearly. The Wyoming National Guard began their summer training on Saturday at The Greater Green River Intergalactic Space Port. According to a press release, 34 soldiers started working on leveling out the dirt airstrip as well as adding drainage. A gas leak caused by construction work on Knotty Pine Street Monday resulted in four homes being evacuated. According to a media release from the city, clipped a 2-inch line and no injuries resulting from the leak were reported. The Green River Fire Department and workers from Dominion Energy responded to the leak. Residents evacuated from their homes have since been allowed to return. A foul smell coming from the wastewater treatment plant has made its presence well known amongst residents. A media release from the city attributed these smells to “turnovers” that occur during extended warm periods. These turnovers allow odors trapped in the deeper parts of the lagoon to come to the surface. The release also stated that the increase in the number of RVs dumping their waste at the plant’s dump station caused an overload, which only furthered the bad smells. Several local nonprofit groups are set to benefit if the Green River City Council approves its yearly community service agreements. The Council was set to vote on the measure Tuesday night, approving the agreements in its consent agenda. A Green River Police Department officer tested positive for COVID-19 Monday afternoon, leading to the officer being isolated at home. According to a press release from the city, the patrol officer is in good condition and the department believes it is a single positive case. The Green River City Council heard the first reading of an ordinance that will alter the maximum number of kids permitted in a home daycare Tuesday night. This ordinance will also allow a daycare center to be included in an R-1 or R-2 zoning district. The Welcome to the Jungle Daycare, located on Hitching Post Drive, has been working on the change since November 2019.
