  • City sees noteworthy 2018

    David Martin, Editor|Dec 26, 2018

The past year will be remembered as a landmark year for the city of Green River. The city celebrated its 150th anniversary in September, marking the occasion with a daylong festival on Railroad Avenue, near the historic U.P. Depot building. Residents had the opportunity to participate in several contests reminiscent of activities popular in the 1800s. Several volunteers, including members of the Sweetwater County Historical Museum and the Hole in the Wall Gang, dressed in period clothing to add...

  • County commissioners face many challenges

    Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Dec 26, 2018

It was a year of tough decisions for the Sweetwater County Commissioners. In March, the Commissioners were faced with a packed room of residents all waiting for their turn to voice support or opposition to U.S. Representative Liz Cheney’s proposed Wilderness Study Area bill, which would release Wyoming’s WSAs. With a 3-2 vote, the Commissioners approved a motion for a full release of all 13 WSAs, including the three areas that run into other counties. Commissioners Wally Johnson, Don Van Mat...

Early in the year, school board members expressed disappointment after a meeting with legislators from Sweetwater County, who told board members the legislature was more...

  • Our View: City, county had a great 2018

    Dec 26, 2018

Overall, we think 2018 was a good year for Green River and Sweetwater County. Green River celebrated its 150th birthday to a celebration worthy of something that occurs once every 150 years. The city has made strides in work on the UP Depot building, accomplishing enough to fulfill the conditions of the city’s original five-year lease, opening up a 99-year lease for the building. Work continues on the Tomahawk building and its owners hope to bring businesses into the historic structure when the elevator and other essentials are in place. B...

  • Letter: Veteran does not agree with Enzi's letter

    Dec 26, 2018

I live many miles from Green River, but I remember visiting you town back in 2013. I enjoyed the motel and the food up near the interstate. The HR299 bill, which Senator Enzi objected to, was not a new expenditure. It was simply a return of benefits that were taken from the Blue Water Navy back in 2002. For 16 years, we have been exiled from the thousands of Vietnam veterans whose claims come on the VA acknowledging that the veteran has illnesses that may have come from Agent Orange. These veterans who served what is referred to as in-country...

  • History on display at county hospital

    Dec 26, 2018

Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County is still celebrating the milestone it reached on Dec. 2. On that day in 1893, dedication ceremonies were held with the Masons of Rock Springs Lodge No. 12 placing the cornerstone. It was completed and opened within a year at the top of C Street in Rock Springs. The hospital went through many transformations before it moved to its 1200 College Drive location. Parts of that history can be found in the hospital lobby, on the hospital’s website at sweetwatermemorial.com, and at the Sweetwater County Museum a...

  • Green River seniors enjoy the year

    Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Dec 26, 2018

Members of the Golden Hour Senior Center sewing group kicked off 2018 by stopping by the Sweetwater County Child Developmental Center's Green River facility to donate 120 hats they made for the children. In February, Mission at Castle Rock Rehabilitation Center learned a new type of artwork called decoupage. Decoupage is nothing more than a slight of hand. When done correctly, it gives one the impression that something was hand painted, but in reality it's glued on paper and sometimes coated...

By DAVID MARTIN Editor The Green River High School athletic programs produce amazing athletes and teams year in and year out. The 2017-2018 season for high school athletics proved no different. Football Under a new head coach, the Wolves played hard, but were unable to reach the playoffs as they had done earlier.
