Deciding whether or not to allow for primitive camping in FMC Park is an issue the council will have revisit. During the last Green River City Council workshop, the Council gave its approval for several groups to start looking into the possibility of camping in FMC Park. Gary Wolfe, who was representing the Green River Greenbelt Task Force, Green River Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and Sweetwater Mountain Biking Association, asked the council for permission to explore camping options for...

Since then, he is required to notify the proper authorities on his employment or residential changes, however, he failed to do so. Moffitt appeared in Third District Court of Judge Richard Lavery at a change of plea and sentencing hearing to two felony charges and...

What to do with the local deer population has been a contentious subject in Green River for the past few years, but while they can be pesky, at this point, they’re probably better left alone. One caveat we would like to make involves deer proven to be aggressive against city residents and other animals. We think they should be killed as they present a tangible threat to others. The deer living in the city are here to stay, with the only thing changing that is a mass culling designed to devastate the population. While some may see that as an a...
Dear Editor, Mr. Ryan Greene, Wyoming congressional candidate, informed me Aug. 25, he is pro-choice (pro-abortion) and opposed to capital punishment (excusing a convicted killer from the death penalty). As a conservative baptist preacher (independent, fundamentalist, King James Bible-only-believing, Christian), I find Greene’s position to be reprehensible. Every citizen-voter of moral conscience in this state must recognize that abortion is murder under any circumstance, and that the Authorized Word of God requires execution of every c...
Dear Editor, Nomis is not qualified to be Fire chief, just because he is a Nomis. He didn’t take college classes or serve as interim fire chief and then get the shaft. We need new blood and the city needs to get into a new era. Mike Liberty worked for the job and then he was only good enough to be the interim fire chief. Green River, shame on your politicians. Christine Pope Bountiful, Utah...
From the City of Green River Recognition, the expressed appreciation by one person to another for that person’s behaviors, activities or impact that may or may not be accompanied by a physical or financial reward. We received a call today from a local resident that just wanted to say thanks to all the city employees and give recognition for the job they do. That person, a long time resident, understands the budget pressure the city and the state are under and they know we have been expected to do more or maintain with less resources. Yes, t...
The Green River High School Varsity Tennis Team started the season well with a victory over Powell Friday, but faltered in a close loss to Cody the next day. Green River’s boys defeated Powell 4-1, while the girls won 3-2. In Cody, the boys lost 2-3, while the girls lost 1-4. Head coach Phil Harder said the team has worked hard in addressing key fundamentals during their practices, choosing one item and drilling on that item throughout the practice. With the match in Cody, Harder said it c...
Strong performances in the pool have resulted in the Lady Wolves swimming and diving team qualifying for a few events early in the season. So far, Avery Otto-Horn, Alexis King, Sherylann Moritz, Sydni Sanders and Ashley Jensen have qualified for state. “We had girls put in time outside the season and came in ready to go,” head coach Colleen Seiloff said. “You could really tell those girls put in practice time.” The competition against Jackson was the result of a miscommunication. Jackson...
While the field at Green River High School has been the site of recent renovations, the field won’t become a new Wolves Stadium according to Green River High School Athletics Director Tony Beardsley. During the summer, a new running track and artificial turf football field were installed near the high school, using funds from the district’s recreation board mill levy. Beardsley said the improvements will benefit both the school district and community, saying the field will be used as an sec...

Residents and children had the chance to look at small planes at the Greater Green River Intergalactic Spaceport Saturday. During fourth annual Spaceport Day, children and their parents were encouraged to have breakfast, eat a cookie, drink some water or juice and make their way over to the planes. Though most of the planes were small one and two-person planes, the children thought they were huge. Some of the pilots were kind enough to let the children climb into the planes to look at the...

A deer with a drooping, broken antler, that was visibly distressed was helped by a local agency. A couple weeks ago, Green River resident Stan Blake was going into his backyard when he saw an injured buck. “I knew the deer was in distress,” Blake said. The buck was laying down and I could see its antler was broken. Blake called Green River Animal Control and officer Kim Wilkens responded to the call. It only took her a couple of minutes to decide she needed to call the Wyoming Game and Fis...
