After arriving home around 4 a.m., the last thing a Green River couple thought they would see upon waking up is an officer standing near their bed. On Sunday morning at about 8:15 a.m., Josh and Crystal House were woken up by Green River Police Department officers and Green River Fire Department firefighters. Josh said the whole experience was hazy and he’s not sure if it’s because of the gas he inhaled when their home had a gas leak, being overly tired from a long trip home or a combination of...

Deleon said in order for the sixth-penny tax, also known as the specific-purpose tax, to come before the commission, it must have a two-thirds vote...

We were able to offer more licenses for limited-quota elk, deer and antelope this year....

These fishermen and women have submitted more than 190 applications with photos, lengths and catch locations to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s Master Angler program. The new program launched in June to inspire people to fish more. “Fishing is great in Wyoming, and it will only get better throughout the rest of the summer and fall,” Mark Smith, Game and Fish assistant fisheries management coordinator, said. “The numbers of trophy fish folks are catching is very im...
One important facet of Craig Bohl-coached football teams is development of a strong, physical running game, and that point was emphasized in Tuesday’s fourth practice of Fall Camp. Bohl said that his team dedicated a significant amount of time working on the running game during the Cowboys’ morning practice. “We had a physical practice today, even though we were in half pads,” Bohl said. “We’ll go full pads tomorrow. We worked heavily on the inside running game (today). Last year, we just didn’t run the ball nearly as well as what we needed to...

The need for a van 15 years ago sparked a fundraising effort to help veterans and it’s still going on today. The Rock Springs Disabled American Veterans Chapter 12 continues to raise money to help veterans in need. Louis Dale, former DAV Cmdr., said in August of 2004 the DAV was trying to get a new van to transfer veterans to and from Salt Lake City for medical appointments because the van they were using was in rough shape. “It was an accident just waiting to happen,” Dale said. “I went to...

Recent comments by the Green River Urban Renewal/Main Street Agency regarding the Love’s Travel Stop proposal have us confused as to how the agency thinks the commissioners can implement its requests. According to the comments, the agency wants Love’s to partner with it and promote Green River businesses. It’s also asking the company to sponsor Main Street events. These requests aren’t out of the question, but we’re not sure why the county needs to be involved in communicating these requests. The people the agency should send these requests to...
To the Editor, Green River citizens and visitors using the Greenbelt from FMC Bridge along the river, behind the ball fields all the way to the horse corrals deserve a big thank you. As one of the people who pick up dog doo and trash left by others, I have noticed a huge change. One year ago, I removed 7-10 bags per month from those areas. This year, there is a noticeable difference, a half a bag here, perhaps 3/4 there. I’m sure everyone enjoys seeing a cleaner Greenbelt as we walk, bike and fish. Dawn Coyote Green River...
I got pulled over for speeding Saturday. I was in Rock Springs and driving near Veterans Park when it happened. The Rock Springs Police Department officer told me I was driving 40 mph in a 30 mph zone, which I can confirm because the knee-jerk reaction to seeing any sort of patrol vehicle is to quickly glance at my speedometer. The officer gave me a warning about the speeding and was genuinely pleasant during the stop. A mental error involving a dead cell phone and not printing my insurance cards resulted in a citation for not having that...
