Students at Monroe Intermediate School had the opportunity to see a sled dog racer and his team. Last Friday, Frank Moe, his nephew, Mike, and their sled dogs, visited the school. Those attending had the chance to meet the dogs, try on equipment and ask any questions they had about sled races. The team traveled to Evanston this weekend and with 205 points Green River took first place, followed by Jackson with 44 points and then Natrona County who took third. The Green River Lady Wolves kicked off the conference season with a win and a loss. On Thursday the Lady Wolves played its first home game against Evanston Lady Red Devils. With New Year’s Resolutions still fresh in people’s minds, the Green River Recreation Center has seen a usage increase. However, that’s not the only reason the recreation center has seen an increase in its daily numbers. Snowballs were coming from every direction at the Mission at Castle Rock Rehabilitation Center's snowball fight. Residents armed with soft, squishy, indoor snowballs, took aim at anyone passing by the hallway Thursday morning. Amid a budget crunch, the Sweetwater County Child Developmental Center will host a fundraiser to help cover costs. Center director Lu Kasper said the second annual Career Day is the same as last year’s event, but with one exception it acting as a fundraiser for the center. “Last year was pretty much a hit,” Kasper said. “We had over 600 people.” For an event of this size, the center chose to host it at the Sweetwater County Events Complex from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Jan. 21. Bitter winter weather conditions caused Green River schools to close Thursday and busses to break down Friday. For some seniors at the Golden Hour Senior Center, craft time is something they do to hang out with their friends. During one of the Lets Get Crafty classes, crafters were busy making wreaths out of pipe cleaners, various colored mesh and wire wreath frames. Cooks and bakers were busy preparing and serving Christmas dinner last Thursday at the Golden Hour Senior Center. For the cooking staff at GHSC, the day started at 5 or 6 in the morning.
